Science Ms. Alexander was conducting very exciting science experiments. We are going to use here Ms. Sam's description of our PreK3 science adventure. and English activities with Ms. Alexander. We were focusing on what is good for our teeth versus what is bad for our teeth. The investigation took three days to complete. Day 1, Gan Ramat Gan were presented with three beverages: brown soda, grape juice, and milk. The students were then asked to predict what would happen to their teeth (in this scenario, hard boiled eggs) if they were exposed to each of the different beverages over an extended period of time. The predictions ranged from the soda turning our teeth brown or rotten to the milk causing our teeth to explode or crack. After leaving the eggs in their designated liquid for two days, Gan Ramat Gan were then exposed to the results. This time they were able to conclude: the grape juice stained the teeth (eggs) black, the soda made the teeth (eggs) turn brown, and the milk helped them maintain their original white coloring. The final consensus was, to keep our teeth healthy we should drink more milk (chalav). The third and final day of our experiment focused on how we can continue to support our teeth and keep them healthy. The three eggs were reintroduced, but this time they were accompanied by a toothbrush and toothpaste. Gan Ramat Gan took turns brushing each egg and describing how the egg changed when they attempted to clean them. The grape juice, mostly came off, but left a slightly grey tint, the milk showed off the blue toothpaste, but then when washed away glistened white again, but the soda egg, no matter how much brushing, remained brown. The final decision was we should drink a lot of milk, maybe a little juice, but stay away from soda. English: On the alternative days, when we were not conducting investigations, Gan Ramat Gan were continuing to strengthen their literacy skills. Each week, we continue to review and introduce new letter flashcards. During Fundations (our letter flashcard time), the students are asked to repeat the letter, sound, and word. Next, each student is given a chance to name one letter independently. If they are able to name the letter, sound, and name, they are then asked to practice air writing the letter (drawing the letter with their finger as the teacher instructs how to form the letter- ex. T: straight line down, straight line across the top). In small groups, the students revisit the letters and will have a chance to name the selected letters for that week, independently. If they need additional time with the letters, we use this time to continue practicing the letter names through our Crocodile game. If they show confidence recognizing all of the letters for this week, we have begun practicing identifying some rhyming words. The first part of the activity involves reading Hop on Pop and then work as a group to match the rhyming cards together. Hebrew: We continued to practice words about our body. We are now focusing on sentences. On Monday Ms. Anna read the story about the Fly and then we had a fly in the classroom flying around and sitting on our heads. When it arrived on our head we said: "Yesh li zvuv al harosh." - I have a fly on the head. On Wednesday we read the story about the Butterfly, so a butterfly was flying around the classroom. When it landed on our heads we said: "Yesh li parpar al harosh." - I have a butterfly on the head. In the morning we practice the following sentences:. "Ani (lo) rotze(m) /rotza(f) chalav, tapuach, ananas, agas...." - I (don't) want milk, apple, pineapple, pear. We also try to link words by saying. "Yesh li einayim, oznayim, af vepe" - I have eyes, ears, nose and mouth. We are also reciting the poem about the butterfly and practicing it for the winter show.
