This week we learned about buildings and houses in Hebrew. We also moved in to Israel's tallest building, the City Gate Tower. Every morning we say Good Morning in Hebrew (Boker Tov) and move our badges from the white board to our tallest building. During Hebrew Circle time we started to learn more about our surroundings: buildings, houses, chairs, doors and carpets. We hope that we can build similar structures from blocks. After our great animal friends, we also added people to the blocks, During English Circle time, we learned about the Calendar, the weather and lots of Rhymes and stories. We had one rainy day when we went to the gym and had lots of fun with playing ball games. The greatest new thing of the week was the Magic Cup with our equity sticks. "Equity sticks keep students on their toes, mentally alert, and poised to contribute. When used routinely, this practice promotes a culture of participation and attention. " Each stick has the name of a student and the Magic Cup randomly chooses someone for a task or ask him/her to say a word in Hebrew. Centers: We opened the Science Center this week, where we can count colorful animals, play with dices and make patterns from colorful geometric shapes. We also opened the Writing Corner with small white boards. Hebrew Words of the week:
Delet - Door Kise - Chair Shatiah - Carpet Bait - House Binyan - Building Gadol - Big Katan -Small We colored a door, a house, a carpet and a chair, see memory game with the same images, so you can practice these words at home. Click here to play! See you on Monday!

We had a very busy week. Jobs Employment numbers rose sharply in Gan Ramat Gan. We are targeting 0% unemployment and created as many jobs as we could.
Centers: We received our cool badges. This helps us to check in to our centers. Every child is asked in which center she/he would like to play and then he/she checks in with her badge. In addition to Blocks, Connecting Games & Puzzles, Library and Puppets, we opened Dramatic Play (starting with a well equipped kitchen) and Art. We play about 15 -20 minutes in a Center and then we switch. Back to School Night: We had Back to School Night on Wednesday. In case you missed it, you can find the power point presentation here and the film about Gan Ramat Gan here. Birthdays: Our school celebrates birthdays with singing and a tradition called “a celebration of life/a walk around the sun.” A walk around the Sun typically goes like this: A candle is put in the middle of the room to represent the sun, and labels for each month of the year are laid out around it. The teacher and class form a circle around the candle, while the birthday boy or girl stands next to their month of birth. The child then walks around the candle once for each year of their life. The teacher/parent reads a special memory and accomplishment for each year. We celebrated Harvey's , Joey's and Yohana's birthdays today. More information is available on birthdays on the word file below. You will be asked to fill out a short form for the celebration and to visit the classroom if you are free to come that day. We also added Israeli tradition to the celebration. The children had crowns with the number "3" We listened to both English and Hebrew birthday songs and we lifted them up on a chair 4 times (3 plus one for the next year) and we counted the years in Hebrew.
Hebrew: This week we started to use more Hebrew and we also have Hebrew Circle Time every day. From now on it will be difficult to list all new words, as I try to speak Hebrew as much as I can. Every morning we check who is in the class and who is at home. Who is at home? - Mi babait? Who is in Gan Ramat Gan? - Mi bagan ramat gan? Also when Ramat Ganians wake up after nap they are welcome to give a "hibuk" (hug) to their teachers. You can practice "hibukim" (hugs) at home as well. We had a wonderful week in Gan Ramat Gan.
Ramat Ganians are back to work. We are used to our daily routine by now. Arrival, breakfast, clean up, circle time, morning message, greetings and walking to the playground.
We have a great time at the playground. Occasionally, Ms. Queen (PE teacher) organizes races for us and we are always faster than her. Poor Ms. Queen, she had no idea that she was racing an enthusiastic group of future Olympic runners. We started to discover similarities between English and Hebrew. We listened to the following songs both in English and Hebrew: We learned the following Hebrew Words: Giraffa - Giraffe Pinguine - Pinguine Shatiah - Carpet Kol Hakavod - Good job Sababa (slang)- Cool, Great , All Right In order to work on our memory skills, Gan Ramat Gan is now launching a memory game. Click here to play the Ramat Gan Safari game and pronounce the Hebrew name of the animals we colored in the past weeks. When you find the pairs the Hebrew names are popping up. Elephant - Pil Camel - Gamal Alligator - Tanin Giraffe - Giraffa Bear - Dov Seal - Kelev Yam We read School's First Day of School "In this perfectly pitched, emotionally resonant book , a school building worries about and adjusts to the arrival of kids and the first day of school." It definitely helped us understand the feelings of 6015 Chillum Place. Finally on Friday we visited a playground in Ramat Gan with the help of Ms. Anna's daughter, Julie. We learned the following Hebrew words: Gina - Playground Nadneda - Swing Maglicha - Slide You are welcome to visit our "Gina" in Ramat Gan during the weekend. Click on the video below. We had a wonderful week in Gan Ramat Gan! This week, we discovered the playground. We also received A Hold-a-Ring Walking Rope. This amazing product made it possible to reach the playground and spend a great time running and playing every morning after Circle Time.
Our citizens are continuing to eat breakfast and clean up nicely. After breakfast, we dance to Hebrew songs. Then, we listen to the Morning Message from Ms. Alexander and Ms. Anna, we greet each other and the Safari animals on the wall in Hebrew, and we practiced our favorite rhyme of the week: Five Little Monkeys. We also had so much fun playing Bear Hunt and Lion Hunt. Ramat Ganians are not afraid and keep going to these hunts again and again. If our friends feel like going on a hunt during Labor Day Weekend, we encourage you to click on the links. We started to learn how to play in small groups and stay at one Center at a time. This week, we introduced the following Centers:
It was raining on Thursday, so we discovered our beautiful gym and played with blocks. We also listened to a Hebrew song about rain, Geshem , geshem mishamayim. Hebrew words we learned: Pil - Elephant Dov - Bear Kelev Yam - Seal Kadur - Ball Boker Tov - Good Morning Lo- No We read the following books in Hebrew: Spot Goes to the Circus (Spot is Pinuki in Hebrew) Elmer (Elmer 's name is Bentzi in the Hebrew version) Elmer and the Lost Teddy We also learned that these books open the opposite way (right to left) and we listened to a shortened Hebrew version with English translation. We also started to stay for a full day and nap in the Gan. I am sure you have noticed our daily growth since we have been napping so beautifully with our favorite blankets. We listened to Classical Music while sleeping which hopefully helps our awesome brains develop. We had a wonderful week in Gan Ramat Gan! |
