English: Greetings once again Gan Ramat Gan Families! On the English side of things, this will be a shorter blog. As I was out sick two days, and feeling sick that day before...we didn’t get to cover as much. We did however continue to review our 9 Fundations letters that the children were already introduced to so far. This is great because it reinforces letter and sound recognition for those that can identify their letters, and for those that don’t, they are learning and retaining letter identification for these letters. We are still focused on feelings during Second Step (happy, sad, excited, scared, and angry). They are learning how to understand and manage emotions. During this week, we also introduced the sensory table. I asked Clint (Joelle’s dad) to bring in lots of leaves/acorns/sticks to add to this table for them to observe and touch while using magnifying glasses...they loved it! Our read-a-louds were mostly non-fiction...all about autumn. They was: A is for Autumn, Squirrels, Acorns, and Pumpkins. These books gave them real Life Photos of all of these things, one book introduced them a little to hibernating animals. It was a short week, but a good one despite my illness. Remember school is closed Monday, so I will see you all Tuesday...the day of our fall festival!! Until next time, Ms. Cindy Hebrew This week we started assessments in Hebrew. We reviewed numbers and colors. We continued to sing all of our Sing Along songs in Hebrew Please click on the link and play these songs for us at home. We learned a new song/dance about friendship and playing together. Song of the Week: Simi Yadech ... (Put your hand in my hand) This week we watched two cartoons in Hebrew. Sometimes we watch short films (we already know) in Hebrew. We do not understand all in Hebrew, but it is a great way to listen to the language and feel that we are able to understand what is going on as we see the film.

English Greetings Gan Ramat Gan Families!! Last week in Gan Ramat the children were introduced to a fun new counting game during math time! They absolutely loved this game, and in the midst of it, forgot or didn’t realize that they were learning math concepts. This was a small group activity where four children at a time sat at a table with me and played the monster counting game. An old Clorox wipes container was used to create a funny little monster who eats candy(paper candy pieces), and likes to nibble little hands as well. Each child was given a number card with a little monster on it, and had to identify the number, then pick the corresponding pieces of candy from his mouth. When his stomach was empty, they fed him their corresponding amount of pieces again. We played this on Tuesday and Thursday. Next week I will add a variation to this game, and I think they will enjoy it!! During this week we also reviewed all of the Fundations letters that the children have been introduced to since we started using this curriculum. It was all about retaining and reviewing letter sounds and letter recognition. During Second Step, we are still focused on feelingsn(two per week). Last week was surprised and afraid, but we still reviewed our happy and sad feelings cards from the week before as well. We sang if your happy and you know it throughout the week using movements for each feeling. During Shared Reading we used the big books! The titles were: From head to toe, what comes next, and one other big book that I can’t quite remember the title of right now. Lastly, as we are continuing our unit...”All About Me”, the children were tasked with painting a picture of their favorite food, which turned into...I’m just going to paint my favorite “thing”(not necessarily food), but that of course is absolutely okay! It was a pretty good week! Don’t forget your “All About Me" project that is due on this coming Friday the 26th. Be creative and have fun with it!! Until next time... Ms. Cindy Hebrew Shalom!שלום We played many games in Hebrew at Center Time: Feely Box with classroom objects; Bingo with weather cards and Classroom Design with objects. We read and recited the poems about the "Parpar" (Butterfly) and the "Bakbuk" (Bottle) and learned a new poem about the blue balloon, who wanted to be bigger and bigger and at the end popped. Watch Datya Ben Dor's poem below. Poem of the Week: We sang a lot and learned a new song about being together and being all brothers (friends) We sat in a circle holding hands and singing. Song of the Week: We read about "Benzi" the patchwork elephant in Hebrew. Benzi's name in English is Elmer, so you can read the book in English about the little elephant who was different from his friends. We practiced colors by coloring Benzi during shared read aloud in Hebrew Thank you Charisse and Vicky for being Mystery Readers this week. Thank you Clint for the beautiful leaves. We celebrated Andre's 4th birthday on Friday. MAZAL TOV! Video of the Week; Ms. Cindy's Math Monster (Click on the link to watch the video) Moments of the Week Slideshow: English: Greetings once again Gan Ramat Gan Parents! On the English side of things... This week we focused on feelings during Second Step. How the different feelings may look as well as why we may feel these emotions/feelings. I didn’t use our Tommy and Tasha puppets too much because they weren’t needed to talk about these specific emotions, like: Disappointed, Surprised, Worried, Frustrated, and Excited. As we went through each feeling, I showed them the card, and then acted out that emotion using an impromptu script of sorts. An example of what I mean is this: when I held up the frustrated card and asked them...what do you think this little girl is feeling? After they tried to answer, I used an example by acting out: “Oh no I can’t zip up my jacket, (sigh!), I’m so frustrated that I can’t do it myself”, and then I crossed my arms. I did this for the other emotions, just to touch it, and show them how it would look. I think I’m going to create a feelings chart that they could use each day. Sort of a daily feelings check-in!! This was a great week to re-read the Color Monster, which is a book of feelings, using colors. Second Step - Home Link Week 7 This week I also introduced stencils in the writing center, as well as the alphabet/ food/puzzles that all of the pre-3 English teachers introduced. This was a small group activity that many of the children enjoyed! A few of them played this game over and over again. There will be photos attached to the blog of them putting together these two piece puzzles. This was a fun way to teach them upper case and lower case letter recognition. During math time on Tuesday, they also were given the opportunity to cut out shapes again...and this was a request! Also this week, we focused on different things that your children like! I asked about what their favorite foods, favorite colors, and favorite kinds of weather were throughout the week. below are their responses. 1. Nathanael- chicken and rice, the colors blue & green. 2. Joelle- Spaghetti, pink & purple, and snowy weather. 3. Malichai- Pizza, red and windy weather. 4. Andre- French fries, silver, and Hot weather. 5. Collin- Popcorn, green, and Snowy weather. 6. Dylan- French fries, Sunny, and silver. 7. Maddie- Ice cream, blue & green, and cold weather. 8. Molly- Broccoli, blue & silver, and Windy weather. 9. Valentina- bacon & eggs, red, and Rainy weather. 10. Naira- Chicken, green, and hot weather. 11. Lastly, our two new Fundations letter were A (apple/alligator) and G (game/goat/guitar). We of course reviewed the other letters as well...Along with photos of things that begin with those alphabets. It was a pretty full week of fun learning adventures! Until next time... Ms. Cindy Hebrew: This week we continued to practice our classroom, color, number and weather vocabularies. On Tuesday we worked in the Art Center with leaves and glue. Thank you Joelle's dad for the beautiful automn leaves and flowers. We practiced colors in Hebrew while we were glueing the leaves and flowers. On Friday we played with a feely box. In the box we had the following items: shulhan - table kise - chair misparayim - scissors shatiah - carpet We placed our hands in the box under the blanket and were asked to find the objects in Hebrew. We all loved this game and we will repeat it with different objects next week. Song of the Week: The Rabbit who forgot to close the door and got a cold. This song is not only great for teaching the words: shafan - rabbit katan - small hashafan hakatan - small rabbit delet - door lisgor - to close It is also a great tool to learn how we are placing our arm in front of the mouth when we sneeze or cough. Let's practice it at home. Play the music for us. We also love to sing along, play our favorite songs from the Gan Ramat Gan Sing Along Playlist
