Moments of the Week:
Shalom! This week we followed our regular daily schedule (click on the link to see our schedule) After breakfast, Second Step (see Ms. Cindy's description) and morning recess, we have Morning Meeting in Hebrew three times a week. We start the Morning Meeting with a greeting song: Shalom laChem..., click on the video below to listen to our song. During morning meeting we count the days of the month in Hebrew on the Calendar. We started to learn numbers in Hebrew You can click on this link to start to study the numbers with us. We also sing the days of the week. As we do not like to sit on the carpet for a long time, we always dance and jump at the end of the meeting. After Morning Meeting and Center Time, we have Hebrew Read Aloud. This week we read the A Tale of Five Balloons which is a classic of Israeli children's literature. We learned about colors and we love this book. Click on the link to learn the colors with us. Watch the video below and listen to the story with us. (voiced by Lili and Gabi Bayer) Greetings once again Gan Ramat Gan families! Last week the class was introduced to Second Step. Second step is a social/emotional curriculum that essentially helps children develop positive social skills in the classroom, and should trickle down to their home environment. This curriculum uses puppets, different scenario cards, music, and other things. Last week the children were introduced to Tommy our puppet classmate! Tommy introduced himself to the class, told them what he liked to do in school, and eventually asked them to introduce themselves to him. One day they were split into small groups of two, given one puppet per group, and asked to take turns introducing themselves, and interacting with the puppet with their partner. Next week, I will introduce the girl puppet…haven’t named her as of yet (I will think up a name to introduce to the children over this long weekend). Second step will continue throughout the school year, with new and exciting challenges. Also during the week, the children absolutely loved read a-loud time…as usual. I revisited the Peanut Butter and Cupcake book, and the Color Monster book throughout the week, as they have demanded. I even reference the color monster book throughout the day with them, and use it as a feelings check-in of sorts. During nap time I tell that I want them to be on “Green”, which is calm and relaxed. The new books introduced were as follows: Pepper and Poe, The Full Moon at the Napping House, and Press Here. There was one other book that I brought to school to share…but I can’t quite remember as I sit here and type (left all of my books at school). This week was even better than last week! They are becoming more acclimated to the rules and routines of the room, and are enjoying being introduced to the centers little by little. Next week we start Fundations (letter sound recognition/phonics) from 8:25-8:35, which is a small window so please try to arrive by 8:00am sharp if your child is going to eat breakfast because I will have to start on time. Thank You all, and I will see you next week for a new educational experience. Ms. Cindy |
