The highlight of the week was the Doctor's Office which opened in Gan Ramat Gan on Monday.. We have two stethoscopes, doctor and nurse uniforms, one syringe for flue shots, a cool office phone, registration forms on a flip chart and five patients. Meet our patients and staff: (more staff pictures will follow) In case you would like to practice filling out registration forms at home, you can download them here. For each body part on the form, color in the smiley face if it feels good, or color in the sad face if it hurts.
We also changed the structure of the classroom during arrival time in the mornings. Art table is now open with crayons and markers. Connecting games and math games are available at two other tables. Breakfast is served at two tables. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
(Turkey is "chodu" in Hebrew)

This week we focused on Math in the afternoons after napping. Math is math both in Hebrew and English, which is becoming quite natural for us. We are counting up to 10 both in English and Hebrew. In general we are quantifying until 5-10.. We are working on connecting numerals with their quantities. Gan Ramat Gan has some beautiful new math games. Our favorite math game is the Count and Link elephant numbers. This game is also helping to develop our fine motor skills because linking is not easy.
We have great new activities in our Writing Center. In addition to tracing letters with markers and play-dough , we have envelops with the letters of our names. And here is a sneak preview of Ms. Alexander's beautiful Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree. (It is a surprise for Monday)
During center times we had our small Hebrew groups. Usually we learn 6-8 minutes , play a game in Hebrew and then everyone goes back to the center where he/she likes to play.
On Friday we created a small face, practiced the Hebrew words and used paper glue sticks. For many Ramat Ganians it was a milestone, first time they encountered a glue stick. For Ms. Anna it was a challenge balancing between Hebrew and teaching how to use the "devek" (glue in Hebrew). I encourage you to discover this great new thing at home as well. Here is a slide show of our masterpieces. In addition to the face we also practiced the colors in Hebrew.
On Thursday, we celebrated Gabrielle's birthday and she walked around the Sun four times with the Globe.
Ramat Ganians watched a slide show about her life and she explained to us what we saw. We all loved Bob Marley, the cat and other adventures of Gabrielle.
Song of the week: Hine ma tov uma naim, shevet achim beyachad (It is good and pleasant when brothers (friends) are sitting together.) Ms. Anna is singing this in order to urge Ramat Ganians to sit on the "shatiach" (carpet)
Soon you will receive the professional photos from Picture Day. Here is a short behind-the-scenes slide show.
My Body After getting to know our classroom and learning our favorite words in Hebrew like "Shatiah" (carpet) we are moving to our new topic in the curriculum "HaGuf Sheli" (My Body). This week we focused on our face and learned: Panim- Face Sear - Hair Oznayim - Ears Einayim - Eyes Pe - Mouth On Monday during Hebrew Center Time each group drew the parts of the face on a gingerbread man. You can see our masterpieces in the classroom. On Tuesday each child had a chance to see her/himself in a mirror and draw a self-portrait.. Ms. Alexander spoke with Ramat Ganians about their experience visiting doctors and hospitals. They also started to paint the props for our next Dramatic Play scene, the Doctor's Office where our students will also practice during their residency. Books Ms. Alexander read Goodnight, me about a sleepy baby orangutan who "before he shuts his eyes must first say goodnight to each and every part of himself" Ms. Anna read "Hila Hola" (Hila is sick) about a little girl who has fever and "LeIbud Halach Zvuv" ( A Fly has been lost) about a little boy and a fly. The fly sits on his nose , arms, knees, a perfect way to learn about our body in Hebrew. We also practice the different words in Hebrew with the help of our very own fly on a stick. Song of the week: Yadayim lemalla al harosh, al haktefayim 123... ( Hands up on the head , on the shoulders 123) We had a wonderful week in Gan Ramat Gan.
This week we were in school for only 4 days, but we learned so much.
On Tuesday we had a lot fun at the Harvest Festival. Ramat Ganians are very diligent and have painted 19 pumpkins since then. Books: We read amazing books this week. Ms. Alexander read us The Giving Tree which is a beautiful story about a little boy and a tree. The class listened to it with great empathy and had many questions. Ms. Anna read The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Hebrew. If you read this book in English to your child, you can still practice a little Hebrew. The days of the week, the numbers and some fruits. Yom Rishon - Sunday Tapuach Echad - 1 apple Yom Sheni - Monday Shnei Agasim - 2 pears Yom Shlishi - Tuesday Shlosha Shezifim - 3 plums Yom Revii - Wednesday Harbaa Tutim - 4 strawberries Yom Chamishi - Thurshday Hamisha Tapuzim - 5 oranges Yom Shishi - Friday Uga- cake Glida -ice cream and more Shabat - Saturday We read "Auto Glida" (Ice Cream Truck) which is a great Hebrew children's book about colors. The main characters are: Chatul Adom (red cat) who sits in the Halon Adom (Red Window) Chatul Kahol (blue cat) who sits in the Halon Kahol (Blue Window) Chatul Tzahov (yellow cat) who sits in the Halon Tzahov (Yellow Window) Thursday we read "Lo Rotza" ,(I don't want) the perfect book to learn how to throw a tantrum in Hebrew and how to calm down with the help of a Buba (doll) Attention: Yalda katana (little girl) says "lo rotza" but yeled katan (little boy) says "lo rotze" On Friday we read "Lephamim" (Sometimes) which is a beautiful book about how to express our feelings in Hebrew. Sameach - Happy Atzuv - Sad We are adding more words in the following weeks. Science This week we learned about geometric shapes and patterns in the Science Center.
Song of the Week
